Every skein in this collection is one of a kind, handcrafted by women in fair-trade cooperatives in India and Nepal from remnant sari fabric. The colors are vivid, the texture is soft, and no two skeins will ever be exactly alike.
What is recycled sari silk yarn?
Sari silk is spun from the leftover fabric of silk saris that would otherwise be discarded. Artisans cut the fabric into thin strips, tie or spin them into yarn, and dye them by hand. Because every sari is different, every skein carries its own mix of colors, textures, and surprises — metallic threads, ombre shifts, or tiny knots where two colors meet. It is a genuinely sustainable fiber with a visible story behind it.
What can I make with sari silk yarn?
Sari silk works beautifully for scarves, shawls, market bags, and art yarn projects where color and texture are the focus. It tends to be a heavier, ribbon-like yarn that drapes rather than bounces, so it is less suited to garments that need structure. Pair it with a simple pattern from our pattern library that lets the color do the work, or use it as an accent fiber in mixed-media pieces. Care instructions vary by skein, but most sari silk should be hand washed gently and laid flat to dry.
